Hazelwood Central Hosts STEM Extravaganza Jan. 26

The Hazelwood School District (HSD) will host its annual STEM Extravaganza on Saturday, Jan. 23, 2016, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Hazelwood Central High School, 15875 New Halls Ferry Road. This free event is open to the community and designed to showcase educational opportunities for students in pre-k through 12th grade in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).

“We encourage students, teachers, families and members of the community to attend the STEM Extravaganza to gain additional exposure to STEM activities, careers, and STEM related degree programs available,” said Matt McClellan, HSD curriculum coordinator for special areas. “Businesses are in need of candidates with strong skills in the STEM areas. This is an excellent opportunity for our families to talk with representatives from educational institutions and businesses to learn what it takes to be successful in these areas.”

At the STEM Extravaganza, attendees will participate in demonstrations and hands-on activities for all grade levels and have the opportunity to visit exhibits, learn about robotics, listen to speakers, meet college representatives and more. Community partners scheduled to attend include Ameren Missouri, Boeing, Washington University in St. Louis, BJC Healthcare, U.S. Navy, Danforth Plant Science, St. Louis Community College, FIRST Robotics, Project Lead the Way, HSD Math and Science and the University of Missouri-St. Louis.
