Stars Win McCluer North Girls Swim

Relays, West Freestyler Back To State

McCluer North Girls Swimming got off to a winning start Dec. 11 at the Florissant-James J. Eagan Civic Center by winning their own relay meet.

McCluer North scored 210 points to win by 14 over second-place Lutheran High St. Charles County, who had 196. Pattonville was third with 184, Hazelwood West was fourth with 178 followed by Francis Howell North (156), Fort Zumwalt (154), Trinity Catholic (94), Hazelwood Central (88) and Lutheran North (32).

McCluer North and Trinity Catholic uses the Eagan Civic Center for home meets, Hazelwood Central and Hazelwood West have their own Natatoriums and Lutheran North has no home meets. It was McCluer North’s second team title at their own relays in the past three seasons.

McCluer North four events including the 200-yard Medley Relay in 2:09.8, the 200-yard Freestyle Relay in 1:55.53, the 200-yard Butterfly Relay in 2:07.49 and the 400-yard Freestyle Relay in 4:18.97. It was the 400 Freestyle team of Jesika Woodard, Tori Schaljo, Hannah Schaljo and Sarah Kuper that overcame a two-point deficit and won the meet for the Stars. The 800-yard Freestyle (10:52.9) was second to Pattonville (9:37.72) while the 200-yard Breaststroke

HAZELWOOD WEST won one event, finished second in three and had one third place finisher. West won the 200-yard Breaststroke Relay in 2:36.3, was second to McCluer North in the 200 Medley Relay (2:11.94) and the 200 Butterfly Relay (2:15.97) while the 5:02.84 performance in the 400-yard Individual Medley (or was it a relay event) was second only to Lutheran High St. Charles County (4:52.4), who also won the 200-yard Breaststroke Relay (2:12.63) Hazelwood West finished third in the 200 Freestyle Relay (2:07.8).

JESSICA NICHOLS, Hazelwood West

senior, appears to be on her way to her fourth and final State Swimming appearance Feb. 19-20, 2016 at the St. Peters Rec-Plex. Nichols surpassed the qualifying standard for the 50-yard Freestlye (25.79 seconds) in her first meet of the season, 25.69 seconds at home in a Dec. 9 dual against Ritenour. She bettered that mark three days later, 25.44 seconds as she won one of two events in the Dec. 12 Eudal Early Season Invite at Ladue Horton Watkins, the other was the 100-yard Freestyle but the 56.24-second effort did not meet the state standard of 56.19 seconds, so far and she has 13 meets to qualify.

She will be attempting to be the

first Hazelwood West swimmer to win state.
