Hazelwood West Students Receive Over $160,000 in Scholarships

Five Hazelwood West High School seniors were awarded a combined total of $166,000 in scholarships recently. James Van Nest, Tiana Bojorquez, Rebecca Connor, Deshon Riley and Mashroor Rashid all won merit-based scholarships to four colleges: Saint Louis University (SLU), Missouri University of Science and Technology (MO S&T), Maryville University and the University of Indianapolis.

James Van Nest received the Dean’s Scholarship worth $16,000 per year for a total of $64,000 to SLU. Van Nest plans to pursue a degree in Biology.

Tiana Bojorquez received the Mouton scholarship to Maryville University, which is valued at $10,000 annually for a total of $40,000. Bojorquez is planning to study art education at Maryville next fall.

Rebecca Connor received the MO S&T Women’s Program Scholarship, which has a value of $500 per semester, for a total of $2,000. Connor will major in chemical engineering.

Deshon Riley received a scholarship from the University of Indianapolis valued at $11,000 per year for a total of $44,000. Riley plans to study environmental science or physical therapy.

Mashroor Rashid received two scholarships from the MO S&T worth a total of $16,000 over four years. The two scholarships are the Miner Scholarship and the University Scholarship.
