Jana Elementary School, in the Hazelwood School District, was awarded a $2,000 grant from Maritz Arts and Education Fund for Teachers Foundation. This grant will be used to fund their “Drumming through poetry” project.

Students in fourth and fifth grades will present a concert next April consisting of drum pieces written by the students and inspired by poetry written during their English Language Arts classes. The students will use nine tubanos to recite, play and dance to their original drum compositions.

Jana students will perform their compositions during the spring school’s concert on Apr. 28.
