Mayor Schneider, Police Chief Lowery and members of the Florissant Police Department and Florissant Valley Fire Protection District hosted and participated in the third annual “Largest Book Party – St. Louis” at the outdoor roof of the James J. Eagan Center ice rink on Monday, Sept. 14.

First Book – St. Louis provided books for the officers and firemen to read to young children to promote the importance of reading. Mayor Schneider observed that the officers and children made positive connections during the event. It was hard to tell who was having the most fun.

“The Largest Book Party – St. Louis” offered 300 children from low-income families a chance to enjoy story time and snacks, but they also were able to pick out four new books to take home. For the past 16 years, First Book – St. Louis has worked to place new books in the hands of children in the greater St. Louis area. With help from individuals, foundations and organizations, First Book – St. Louis has provided more than 100,000 new books to local children.
