Trinity Football, Softball, Volleyball Teams Enjoy Pre-Labor Day Winnings

Trinity Catholic, one of the smaller enrolled high schools in North County, has three teams — Football, Softball and Girls Volleyball — enjoying the Labor Day holiday with winning records.

Football started with a loss but has rebounded for two wins including a win in the Archdiocesan Athletic Association Small Division. Softball has won six of their first eight including their first four but the two losses are AAA Small Division losses. Girls Volleyball has won their first four matches including three in the AAA Small Division losses.

   FOOTBALL — After losing the opener 20-18 to Wright City the Trinity Titans scored a pair of impressive routs including a 40-19 win at Duchesne, an AAA Large Division team, and a 46-20 upset at home over defending AAA Small Division Champion O’Fallon Christian. Trinity wrapped up the win over Christian by scoring 26 points in the fourth quarter. The Titans have scored nearly 35 points per game while allowing less than 20.

Darion Bolden, Isaiah Williams and Darries Rainey lead the Titans in scoring. Bolden has three touchdown receptions including two against Duchesne from Williams, who has three touchdown pases and ran for three touchdowns, two against Duchesne. Rainey has rushed for five touchdowns including two against Duchesne.

Friday, Sept. 11, Trinity travels to St. Peters for a 7 p.m. battle for first place in the AAA Small Division against Lutheran St. Charles County. Lutheran-SC is 3-0 overall, 1-0 in the AAA Small Division and is ranked in the top 10 in Missouri Class Two. Trinity returns home Sept. 18 for a 7 p.m. nonconference game against St. Charles High, who is 2-1 prior to Friday’s game at Warrenton.

   SOFTBALL — Trinity opened the season with wins over Valley Park (5-4), Hazelwood Central (17-1), Principia (4-3) and Lutheran North (21-5). The Titans lost to AAA Small Divison rivals Lutheran St. Charles County (11-3) and Bishop DuBourg (9-4) but rebounded to win over Duchesne (5-4) and McCluer (25-5).

Leading the offense for the Titans prior to Sept 4, include Lauren Whittington — batting .556, slugging .833, 10 hits — Nicole Willams, .632 on base percentage and 10 runs scored, Shelby Warden, four walks and six stolen bases and Lauren Smith, seven runs batted in. In pitching Williams, four games, is 4-0 with an earned run average of 1.56 with 22 stikeouts.

After playing O’Fallon Christian (Sept. 8) and Bayless (Sept. 10-4:15) Trinity will be in the Francis Howell Central Classic Friday-Saturday (Sept. 11-12) beginning Friday, 5 p.m. against Winfield at Howell Central

       VOLLEYBALL, GIRLS — Trinity opened with 2-0 wins over Cardinal Ritter (25-6, 25-11), McCluer (25-11, 25-10) and O’Fallon Christian (25-16, 25-10) then won a tough 2-1 match over Lutheran St. Charles County (25-20, 19-25, 25-21). Trinity played another 4-0 team, Bishop DuBourg, Sept. 8 then will host John F. Kennedy Thursday (Sept. 10) and McCluer North Friday, (Sept 11) in a pair of 5:15 matches. Trinity will be in two tounaments — McCluer North Sept. 19, and Lutheran-St. Charles County Sept 25-26.

Abby Grumich leads the Titans in points scored (29), serves (44), service aces (10) and assists (80) while Kayleigh Fite has 41 kills in 58 attempts and 12 blocks, 10 solo.
