STLCC and Better Family Life Host Amnesty Project in August

For the fifth year, St. Louis Community College (STLCC) and Better Family Life, Inc. are hosting the St. Louis Metropolitan Area Amnesty Project. More than 30 city and county municipalities will participate in the event, which offers St. Louisans who have misdemeanor warrants an opportunity to resolve their legal issues.

The program at STLCC will be conducted over three days at three campuses from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., as follows:

  • Saturday, Aug. 1, in the Student Center cafeteria at the Forest Park campus, 5600 Oakland Ave.
  • Wednesday, Aug. 5, in the gymnasium at the Florissant Valley campus, 3400 Pershall Road.
  • Saturday, Aug. 8, in the Student Center cafeteria at the Meramec campus, 11333 Big Bend Road.

Participants will be assessed a $10 processing fee to cover warrant vouchers. STLCC representatives will be available to discuss available educational opportunities.

The Amnesty Project provides the chance to resolve situations that may prevent people from obtaining or keeping a job or accessing housing and educational resources.  Established in 2000 to help citizens clear their records of outstanding traffic-related warrants, it has been expanded to include misdemeanor warrants and outstanding child support cases.

The Amnesty Project is part of Better Family Life’s annual Family Week.

“In 2000, we saw the need to provide citizens with a non-threatening way to engage with the courts without fear of being arrested,” said James Clark, Better Family Life’s vice president of community outreach. “We then expanded our offerings to better serve the citizens of St. Louis.”
