McCluer North Dominates Winter Sport In Tough Suburban 12 North

McCluer North High School spent the winter season winning or sharing Suburban XII (12) Conference North Division titles as the season offcially ended last weekend.

That continues a trend from the fall in which the Stars finished first or second place in almost all Suburban XII North competition.

McCluer North won the Sububran XII North Girls Basketball title with a complete 6-0 sweep of league rivals and was the only team in the league to advance past districts. Overall McCluer North was 17-9, won the Parkway West Tournament at the beginning of January as well as winning Class Five, District Seven at home during the first week of March.

Leading the way for the Stars in the Suburban XII North include Kortni Collins (11.3 points per game, 62 out of 116 free throws [53.4 percent], 39 assists) Anasha Hurst (41 steals), Eriyana Simmons (128 rebounds) and Lauryn Hutson (17 blocked shots).

In Wrestling McCluer North, who has dominated the Suburban North in the past, was unbeaten against Suburban XII North Teams and was the highest Subrban XII North team in the All-St. Louis Suburban Wrestling Conference meet Jan. 9-10 at Hazelwood Central with a seventh-place finish. Efe Osagae (138 pounds) and Quelton Tolliver (285 pounnds) each finished fourth in Class Four State, Tolliver also won the Gregorian Trophy at the All-St. Louis

Suburban Wrestling Conference meet for most pin falls (four). Osagae was 31-3, Solomon Jackson was 30-2 and and Tolliver was 30-11.

In Girls Swimming McCluer North completed a boys-girls sweep by winning the Suburban XII North Girls championship Feb. 10-12 at the Florissant Eagan Civic Center. McCluer North scored 426 points followed by Hazelwood West (372), Hazelwood Central (159), McCluer (149) and Hazelwood East (49). McCluer North won the 200-Yard Freestyle, state qualifier Sarah Miller won Diving and Sarah Kuper won the 100-Yard Backstroke.

Boys Basketball ended up in a five-tie for first place in the Suburban XII North as Hazelwood Central (23-6 overall and Class Five Quarterfinalist), McCluer North (16-12 and Class Five, District Seven Runner Up), McCluer (13-13), Hazelwood East (12-14) and Hazelwood West (12-15) all were 3-2 in the Suburban XII North. Riverview Gardens was 0-5 in the Suburban XII North and 12-14 overall but was Class Four, District Six Runner Up.

Leading the way in the Suburban XII North was Zeke Moore, Riverview Gardens (25.3 points per game) Camerson Carter, Hazelwood West (133 out of 155 free throws [85.8 percent], 65 steals), Travon Manley, Hazelwood East (125 assists), Dominique Dobbs (227 rebounds) and Marcus George (41 blocked shots).
