After Reaching First Ever Boys Hoops Final North Tech Season Ends

For the first time in school history the North Technical Boys Basketball team was playing in a District final and was assured of taking home a state plaque.

However the plaque was for second place in Class Three, District Six and North Tech had to settle for that Feb. 28 at Duchesne High, St. Charles. The Golden Eagles lost to the host Pioneers 57-48 and the game was played despite Winter Storm Warnings for the area at the time. As a result North Tech finished the season with a 20-7 record for the third year in a row.

Duchesne outscored North Tech 18-8 through one quarter and the Golden Eagles could not get closer than five points, trailing 24-19 at halftime. Duchesne made 20 out of 25 free throws while North Tech made nine out of 16. Tyree White led the Eagles with 15 points while Mike Henderson-Burt scored 12.

North Tech reached the finals by winning two district games for the first time as the Golden Eagles defeated Winfield 81-50 and Orchard Farm 69-47. In winning over winless Winfield Henderson Burt scored 21 points, White added 18 and Caron Payne scored 10. Playing against Orchard Farm for the second time in five games, both North Tech victories, Henderson-Burt scored 12 points one of 10 who scored for North Tech.

CLASS FIVE — District play began for Districts Six and Seven Feb. 28 and continued March 3. The Class Five, District Six final at DeSmet Jesuit is Friday, March 6 at 7 p.m. while the Class Five, District Seven final at McCluer North will be on Saturday, March 7 at 12 noon. On March 11 at 6 p.m.the District Six winner plays the District Fie winner at St. Charles West while the District Seven winner plays the District Eight winner at Lindenwood University, the site of the March 14 Quarterfinal game between the two March 11 winnners.

Hazelwood Central was to play Hazelwood West March 3 prior to the game between host DeSmet and Pattonville and the winners play Friday at 7 p.m. Hazelwood West opened District Six play Feb. 28 with a 79-65 win over Parkway North as M. Coleman scored 25 points, Cameron Carter added 20 and Trey Merritt added 14.

McCluer North was to host Ladue-Horton Watkins March 3 in District Seven after Chaminade played Ritenour and the winners play Saturday at 12 noon. On Feb. 28 Ritenour won 59-58 over Hazelwood East.

CLASS FOUR — McCluer was to play March 2 in District Seven at St. Charles West against Lake St. Louis based Liberty and the winner was to play St. Charles High March 3. The district final is Friday at 7:30 against St. Dominic, Fort Zumwalt East or St. Charles West. The Distrtict Seven Winner plays the District Eight winner March 10, 6 p.m. at Francis Howell Central and that winner plays March 14, 1 p.m. at Francis Howell High.
