Hazelwood Schools STEM Extravaganza Jan. 24

The Hazelwood School District (HSD) invites students, families and members of the community to the STEM Extravaganza on Saturday, Jan. 24 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Hazelwood Central High School, 15875 New Halls Ferry Road in Florissant. The event is free.

The STEM Extravaganza is a showcase of educational opportunities for students in kindergarten through 12th grade in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).

“The STEM Extravaganza provides an opportunity for students and parents to learn more about the STEM disciplines offered by the District,” said Dr. Grayling Tobias, HSD superintendent. “Businesses are hungry for candidates with strong skills in the STEM areas.    The STEM Extravaganza is an excellent opportunity for our families to talk with representatives from higher education institutions, businesses and other organizations and learn what it takes to be successful in these areas and how our offerings can help get students in these high demand career fields.”

At the STEM Extravaganza, attendees will participate in demonstrations and hands-on activities for all grade levels, exhibits, speakers, college representatives and more.

Participants scheduled to attend include: Pfizer, Ameren Missouri, Washington University in St. Louis, BJC Healthcare, U.S. Navy, Danforth Plant Science, St. Louis Community College, FIRST Robotics, Project Lead the Way, HSD Math and Science, and the University of Missouri-St. Louis.

The STEM Extravaganza exemplifies the District’s value of forming partnerships with parents and community members to ensure the success of each student.
