McCluer North Gains Autumn Success Wins 12 North Titles

In the first year of the Suburban XII (12) North Conference McCluer North shined during the now finished autumn season as the Stars won four conference titles, three in girls, while finishing second in two.

Conference titles for McCluer North include Girls Tennis, Girls Volleyball, Softball and Boys Swimming and Diving. The Stars finished second in Boys Soccer and Football

GIRLS TENNIS — McCluer North was undefeated in Suburban XII North Matches and lost only one dual match, to Class Two runner Up St. Joseph’s Academy, 5-0 in the sectional round. McCluer North shuts out McCluer and Hazelwood West, 5-0 in each match to win Class Two, District Four team while Singles player Barbara Boehm and the doubles team of Carrie Moore and Kelsee Ward were District Four champions. Boehm qualified to compete in state and came home with a fifth-place medal and the Stars, in dual matches, had a combined singles and doubles record of 74-9.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL — McCluer North was 12-9 overall and was 8-1 in the Suburban XII North, losing only to Hazelwood Central. The Stars were 3-1 in three-game matches, winning two of them over McCluer and in games played the Stars were 25-21. In Class Four, District Five McCluer North defeated host McCluer, 25-23, 25-20, and Hazelwood Central, 25-17, 25-17 and hosted the Sectionals but were one and done in losing 25-12, 25-9 to State Runner Up St. Joseph’s Academy.

SOFTBALL — McCluer North went 9-0 in the Suburban XII North and was 12-4 overall. The Stars outscored the opposition 163-67 and led the league in per game average runs scored (10-2) and runs allowed (4.2). Brittany Minor batted .533 with 25 runs batted in; Aly Jones hit three home runs and had a 10-3 pitching record with 67 strikeouts.

BOYS SWIMMING — McCluer North, according to the school’s web site, won their sixth consecutive conference title, the first in the Suburban XII North after five straight in the old Suburban North. Match records were not available.

   HAZEELWOOD WEST won the Suburban XII North BOYS SOCCER title with an 8-0 conference record, 16-8 overall and the Wildcats outscored their opponents 78-36. The Wildcats defeated Pattonville 1-0 and Class Four; District Six host Francis Howell North 3-1 to win districts before falling 2-1 to Rockwood-Marquette in the Sectional. Sam Nachtmann had 11 goals, Nore Darwish had 12 assists and Mike Ward has 107 saves.

Hazelwood West BOYS CROSS COUNTRY qualified for Class Four, Sectional Two after finishing fourth in District Three, was runner up to Ritenour in Class Four, District Five SOFTBALL and took second in Suburban XII North Girls Tennis and Softball.

HAZELWOOD CENTRAL won the Suburban XII North FOOTBALL title with a 5-0 league mark and was 11-1 overall losing in the Class Six, District Two finals (a.k.a. quarterfinals) to newly crowned State Champion CBC. Brendan Kocurek scored 63 points (48 extra points and five field goals), Mike Glass threw 17 touchdown passes and scored eight more rushing, Jordan Croft scored eight touchdowns, Xavier Sneed caught seven touchdown passes and Jordan Carey contributed to 100 tackles (60 solo).

In BOYS SWIMMING AND DIVING diver Clayton Janvrin took sixth in state, his second in three years, while GIRLS VOLLEYBALL took second in the Suburban XII North.

OUTSIDE THE SUBURBAN XII NORTH — LUTHERAN NORTH FOOTBALL, 11-2 overall and Class Two Quarterfinalist, shared the METRO LEAGUE titles with two other teams with 4-1 records, In GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY Zoe Hamber took home her second straight Class Two State Medal.

INCARNATE WORD ACADEMY won district titles in GIRLS TENNIS, SOFTBALL and VOLLEYBALL but all three lost in the Sectional round. The Girls Tennis team lost to eventual Class One Third Place finisher Villa Duchesne. TRINTY CATHOLIC won Class Two, District Five GIRLS VOLLEYBALL but lost to State Runner Up Fatima in the sectional. McCLUER SOUTH-BERKELEY won Suburban Central National Softball.
