GITTEMEIER RECEPTION

Historic Florissant will host a reception on Sunday, Sept. 7 from 2-4 p.m. at the Gittemeier House, 1067 Dunn Road to honor the memory of Frank Gittemeier who died Sept. 7, 1891.

Light refreshments will be served and there is no charge, but reservation to 314-721-7055 would be appreciated.

The Gittemeier House, a Missouri German style farmhouse, is a Florissant landmark, built in 1860 by Frank Gittemeier. The house was acquired in 1991 by Historic Florissant Inc. The restored building now houses a used book store and a resources library with historical reference books and family histories. It is open Monday through Saturday from 10-4 and on Sundays from 1-4.

IRISH PARADE

Florissant will hold the first Irish Parade and Festival on Saturday, Sept. 20. The parade will begin at noon at Coldwater Commons Park, near St. Ferdinand Shrine and continue up rue St. Francois. Thirty to forty units are expected to participate. The parade is being organized by the Oliver Plunkett Florissant Division of the Hibernians.

“The parade will be named the “Other St. Patrick’s Day Parade,” said Mayor Robert Lowery. “This will be a gala celebration not just for the Irish but a wonderful day for people of all nationalities and I encourage everyone to attend.”

BARBERSHOP QUARTET

The 2006 International Championship Barbershop Quartet, Vocal Spectrum, will headline the St. Louis Harmony Chorus Show for two concerts on Saturday, Sept. 13 at the James Eagan Civic Center Theatre in Florissant.

Shows are at 2 and 7:30 p.m. and will also feature Trademark, the current regional quartet champions of Sweet Adelines International. The chorus, under the direction of Sandi Wright, will sing, dance and perform feature selections by Fats Waller and pay tribute to the choreographer, Bob Fosse.

PINAFIDDLE

The Florissant Fine Arts Council will begin its 34th season with the musical duo, Pianafiddle. Sunday, Sept. 14 at 7 p.m., at the Florissant Civic Center Theatre. Tickets are $27 Adults, $25 Students and Seniors. For Information, call 314-921-5678 or visit www.florissantfinearts.com.

Pianafiddle, the sensational musical duo of pianist Lynn Wright and violinist/fiddler and Adam DeGraff bring to the Florissant Civic Center Theatre an evening of music crossing all boundaries. Starting with the beginning of a familiar tune, these two remarkable musicians blend the traditional with the spontaneous and unwritten for an always fresh perspective on classical, folk, ragtime, Celtic, and blues.

OLD TOWN FALL FESTIVAL

The 11th annual Florissant Old Town Fall Festival will be held Saturday, Oct. 11 and Sunday, Oct. 12. Saturday activities at St. Ferdinand Park will include a 5K run and bicycle poker run ride. More details will follow.

The festival begins at noon on Sunday and runs through 5 p.m. on rue St. Francois. Activities will include a children’s art festival, chili cook-off, Fido Follies, a flower show and competition, craft fair and flea market, food booths, a wine and cheese garden, and other booths and displays. Spanish, French, German, and Irish culture will be celebrated with entertainment, food and displays.
