Hazelwood Central Girls Basketball, which finished last season as Class Five Sectional participants, will be making their first appearance in the Northwest-Cedar Hill Tournament which begins Dec. 1.
Hazelwood Central will start with a 7 p.m. game against Ursuline Academy after Ritenour, last year’s runner up, plays against Waynesville at 5:30. The winners of the two games play Dec. 4 while the two losers play Dec. 5, both games start at 5:30.
The other half of the bracket starts Dec. 2 as Ladue plays tourney host Northwest at 5:30 while Pattonville and Villa Duchesne meet at 7 p.m. The two winners play Dec. 4 while the two losers play Dec. 5, both games start at 7 p.m.
The final round is Dec. 6 as the seventh-place game begins the day at 9:30 a.m., the consolation final starts at 11 a.m., the third-place game begins at 12:30 and the championship game is at 2 p.m. Kirkwood won last year’s tournament that was finished one month after it started because of snow.
The Northwest Cedar Hill Tournament replaces the Webster Groves Winter Challenge for Hazelwood Central, after finishing eighth out of eight teams. Hazelwood Central, who lost 56-45 last season to eventual state third-place finisher St. Joseph’s Academy, will return to the Visitation Academy Christmas Tournament (Dec. 20-28 not including Christmas Eve and Christmas Day) and the Parkway Central Tournament (Jan. 27-31), where the Hawks took second place in each.
HAZELWOOD EAST will be playing in three tournaments in a 23-day period in December and all three are tournaments the Spartans played in. East begins with the Nerinx Hall Tournament Dec. 8-12, plays Dec. 15-19 in the Fort Zumwalt North Tournament where the Spartans won in 2011 and 2012 and plays Dec. 22-30 (not including Christmas Eve or Christmas Day) in the Duchesne Tournament.
HAZELWOOD WEST and McCLUER each return to the Fort Zumwalt North and Duchesne Tournaments. NORTH TECH will be defending their championship of the Fort Zumwalt North Tournament (where they also won in 2010) then will be in the Ritenour Christmas Tournament Dec. 23-27 (not including Christmas Eve and Christmas Day).
INCARNATE WORD ACADEMY, defending Class Four State Champions the last two seasons, will be playing in the Arkansas Tournament, Dec. 11-13, then returns to defend their championship in the Visitation Christmas Tournament. TRINITY CATHOLIC is in the Winfield Tournament Dec. 1-5 while LUTHERAN NORTH plays Granite City, Ill. Dec. 1, 8 p.m. in opening round of the Orchard Farm Tournament.
