Hazelwood West is one of 32 high schools that will host district tennis, 16 per class in a two-class format, which begins with team duals May 8 and end with singles and doubles finals on May 13.
After districts 16 odd-numbered district host will also hosts Individual (Singles, Doubles) Sectionals, May 15-17. Team winners from Districts Three, Seven, 11 and 15 will host Team Sectionals May 20. Cooper Tennis Complex will be the site of the State Championships on May 25 (Team) as well as May 26-27 (Singles, Doubles).
Team tournament dual meet completion consists of a four-player minimum for dual matches, with three doubles matches followed by six singles matches and the first team to win five matches wins the dual meet and advances. Each school can send up to two singles players and two doubles teams but the players can not play both singles and doubles.
The team district champion and the top two singles players and top two doubles teams advance from districts to sectionals while the winner of the four-team sectionals along with the sectional singles and doubles winners head to Springfield.
Competing against Hazelwood West in Class Two, District Six are Hazelwood Central, Hazelwood East, McCluer High and McCluer North. As of 3 p.m. May 1 the pairings have not been released and the team champion will play May 20 against the Class Two, District Five winner at the winner of Class Two, District Seven, which competes against the winner from District Eight. The Class Two, District Six Singles and Doubles winners and runner-ups compete in the Sectional round against singles and doubles qualifiers from Class Two, District Five at Parkway North.
CLASS ONE, DISTRICT FOUR — At Shaw Park Tennis Courts — Brentwood Boulevard at Forest Park Parkway, Clayton — team duals begin May 8 at 4 p.m. as second seeded Lutheran North takes on third-seeded University City while top-seeded and host Clayton plays fourth seeded Metro with the winners playing May 9 at 4 p.m. The District Four team champion plays at the District Three Team winner May 20 while the Singles and Doubles winners and runner-ups play against the District Three qualifiers at Francis Park, South St. Louis, off Eichelberger Street and just west of District Three host Bishop DuBourg
