Hazelwood West Boys Soccer Wins Class Four, District Six

Hazelwood West Boys Soccer won the Class Four District Six title at Francis Howell North, their ninth district title sine 1987 and took their 16-7 record to the Nov. 4 Sectional against District Five Champion Marquette (Chesterfield-Rockwood School District) at James Eagan Civic Center Park, Florissant.

The winner plays Saturday (Nov. 8) against District Seven Francis Howell Central or District Eight Champion Wentzville-Timberland. Had West won the Wildcats will be at Howell Central or Timberland while Marquette — who defeated DeSmet, 3-2 on penalty kicks, and CBC, 1-0 — will host Timberland or visits Howell Central. Saturday’s winner plays in the State Tournament Nov. 14-15 in Blue Springs, Mo.

Hazelwood West first defeated Pattonville 1-0 on Oct. 28 at Howell North on a second-half goal by Nore Darwish. Two nights later, Oct. 30, the ’Cats defeated the host Knights 3-1 in the district final as Sam Nachtmann scored the final two goals in the final 10 minutes while Darwish assisted on the first two goals including the first Nachtmann goal. Howell North won Oct. 28 over Hazelwood Central, 5-2.

CLASS TWO — Soldan International Studies became the first St. Louis Public School to win District Boys Soccer by winning District Five and took a 10-2-1 record to Duchesne Nov. 4 and the winner plays Saturday against St. Francis Borgia or Moberly. At Trinity Soldan defeated Public High League rival Metro, 10-0 on Oct. 27, and host Trinity, 3-2 on Oct. 29. Trinity was a 2-1 winner Oct. 27 over Lutheran North.

State Cross Country — Girls

HAZELWOOD WEST Senior Cross Country runner Rachel Hutchcraft is the only runner from the Hazelwood School District that will be competing in the Missouri Class Four State Championships Saturday (Nov. 8) at the Oak Hills Golf Center in Jefferson City. Hutchcraft, who will be running in the Girls race at 10:05 a.m., qualified for state by finishing fifth in Sectional Two Nov. 1 at Warrenton High School, running in 19 minutes and 38 seconds. There are no boys runners from the Hazelwood School District and no Ferguson-Florissant School District runners.

In Class Three INCARNATE WORD ACADEMY will be sending two girls that will run in Class Three Saturday at 10:35 a.m. after finishing in the top 15 Nov. 1 in District Three at Spanish Lake Park. Freshman Brooke Fredrickson was fifth at Spanish Lake (20:20.41) while sophomore Emily Paridy was 14 (21:05.22).

In Class Two LUTHERAN NORTH Junior Zoe Hamber returns to state and will run Saturday at 11: 50 a.m. after finishing second (20:55.81) to Whitfield Junior Alex Curtin in District Two Nov. 1 at Spanish Lake Park. Last year Hamber finished fifth in state (20:27.18).
