BY JEANETTE EBERLIN-RIZZELLO
A standing ovation at Hazelwood City Hall last week was given to Councilwoman Peg Lampert as she announced her retirement as Councilwoman for Ward 5. She explained she wanted to reduce her responsibilities and “begin a new chapter in her life”, but says she is leaving the city in good hands.
Lampert stated that the city council, staff and residents of Ward 5 have made her 10 years of service an enjoyable learning experience. “Hazelwoo is a great city in which to live and I have tremendously enjoyed both my time as a resident and my tenure on the council. I extend my appreciation to all those who have supported me over the years.” She said she would be moving to St. Peters to be nearer her family and grandchildren.
Mayor T. R. Carr had this to say, “Mrs. Lampert’s service to the citizens of Ward 5 and the entire city has been exemplary. Her commitment to the residents of her ward and to the City of Hazelwood, serve as a model for all city council members.
Councilwoman Lampert has an impressive record of accomplishments during her 10 years of service. “She has displayed a keen analytic mind as she evaluated city issues, and an understanding of the needs of individuals as displayed in the manner in which she represented her constituents,” said Mayor Carr.
Ward 3 Councilman Terry Salfen adi: “I was very disappointed to hear of her resignation. She was an excellent voice for the citizens of Hazelwood, a very informed and capable council person and a friend who will be sorely missed. I wish her the best as she opens a new chapter in her life.”
During her term in office Lampert served as mayor pro tem for three terms and has served numerous times at national affairs as one of the voting delegates representing Missouri. She served on the Lindbergh Corridor Enhancement project, which together with Florissant, received a $2.3 million grant to enhance a 2 mile stretch along Lindbergh in both communities.
In closing Lampert stated “With the redevelopment of the Ford area by Pannetoni, the Hazelwood Commerce Park by McEagle and Park 370 LLC, I truly believe Hazelwood is on the brink of an economic boom. The Hazelwood City, Hazelwood School District and the residents of Hazelwood will reap the benefits in a few years with added services, employees and a fair tax base. The future looks bright!”
In other matters, the city council gave preliminary approved to a property tax assessment for 2008. The city assessment for homeowners would be increase from .608-cents top 0.62. This would amount to a $4 annual increase for a home valued at $180,000, said City Manager Ed Carlstrom.
