State Girls Tennis Singles Qualifier McCluer North’s Boehm Finishes 5th

McCluer North Girls Tennis Singles player Barbara Boehm has done something that very few players from Florissant Valley area schools could able to do, play two days in the Class Two State Tournament and take home a state medal.

Boehm finished fifth in the Class Two Singles Tournament Oct. 17-18 at the Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield, Mo. Boehm won the fifth place match Oct. 18 over Catherine Henne, Kansas City Notre Dame de Sion, 6-0, 7-5, in a rematch of the Oct. 17 first-round match won by Boehm, 4-6, 6-2, 6-2. Boehm’s only loss came in the Oct. 17 Quarterfinal, 7-5, 6-3, to eventual state runner up Risa Takenaka, Francis Howell North, but rebounded to defeat Holly Johnston, St. Joseph Central, 6-3, 6-0 in the Oct. 17 Consolation Quarterfinal, and Adele Royle, Park Hill South, 6-3, 6-3 in the Oct. 18 Consolation Semifinal.

Boehm won the Class Two, District Four Singles title Oct. 4 at McCluer North defeating teammate Tyra Searcy, 6-0, 6-1 in the title match. In the Oct. 7 Class Two, Sectional Two match at McCluer North Boehm won 6-1, 6-0 over Cesiley King, Visitation Academy.

Boys Soccer Districts-Hazelwoo West Gets Top Seed

Hazelwood West is the only Florissant Valley area school to be seeded first in District Boys Soccer. West opens Class Four; District Six play Oct. 28, 5 p.m. against Pattonville, in a battle of former Suburban North Conference rivals, at Francis Howell North, who plays at 7 p.m. the same day against Hazelwood Central. The two winners play for the district title Oct. 30 at 5:30 and the winner hosts the Nov. 4 Sectional.

CLASS FOUR, DISTRICT FOUR — McCluer North plays Saturday, Oct. 25, against St. Louis University High in one of two games that will be going on the same time, 2 p.m., at Chaminade, who plays against Ritenour. Two winners play Nov. 1, 12 noon for the district title and the right to host the Nov. 4 Sectional.

CLASS TWO, DISTRICT FIVE — Soldan International Studies, a St. Louis Public School, gets a rare top-seed and will meet SLPS and Public High League rival Metro Oct. 27, 4 p.m. at Trinity Catholic, who follows with a 6 p.m. game against Lutheran North. The winners meet Oct. 29, 6 p.m. for the right to go to the winner of District Six in the Nov. 4 Sectional.

CLASS THREE, DISTRICT FOUR — Hazelwood East plays against Gateway STEM 4 p.m. Saturday at St. Mary’s after the top-seeded Dragons play at 2 p.m. against Vashon. The time and date for the championship game is unavailable at press time and the winner hosts the Nov. 4 Sectional.

CLASS THREE, DISTRICT SEVEN — McCluer plays Oct. 28 5 p.m. at top-seeded Fort Zumwalt South, who will host the 7 p.m. Fort Zumwalt East-St. Charles game and the Oct. 30, 7 p.m. Championship game. The district champion will play at the District Eight winner in the Nov. 4 Sectional.

CLASS TWO, DISTRICT SIX — North Tech will play top-seeded Duchesne Oct. 27, 5 p.m. at Lutheran St. Charles County, who follows at 7 p.m. against St. Charles West. The winners play Oct. 29, 6 p.m. for the right to host the Nov. 4 Sectional.

Forest Park Hosts Class Four, District Three Cross Country

Three Hazelwood District Schools — Central, East and West — and two Ferguson-Florissant Schools, McCluer North and McCluer, will complete Saturday, Oct. 25, time to be announced in Class Four, District Four at Forest Park. The top four teams and runners from other teams that finish in the top 30 advance to Sectional Two, Nov. 1 in Warrenton.
