Florissant will honor people from the city who have made notable achievements throughout the years by inscribing their names on Walk Through History plaques. The plaques will be placed in the sidewalk of the Florissant Government Building, 1055 rue St. Francois.

“The first plaque will be dedicated on Saturday, Aug. 23 at 11 a.m., with the assistance of Rosemary Davison and the Florissant Historical Society,” said Mayor Robert Lowery. “The plaque will be dedicated to Francois Dunegant dit Borosier who was actually the first leader of the Village of St. Ferdinand de Florissant.”

Plaques will start at this location and be placed all along St. Francois to the St. Ferdinand Shrine and back up St. Francois to Florissant City Hall. Davison and Lowery believe with Florissant’s long history that recognition of past contributions should be honored.

Light refreshments will be served in the Government Building following the dedication. Arrangements will be made with William Bray, president of the Board of St. Ferdinand Shrine for a tour of the Shrine area.

“This is a wonderful achievement and another milestone for our great city,” said Councilman Thomas Schneider.

Mayor Lowery is inviting all residents to attend this “inaugural event for the start of a new part of history.”
