Hawthorne Players Opens New Season with ‘Plaza Suite’

3 Neil Simon plays (Plaza Suite)  open Hawthorne Season

at Florissant Performing Arts Center  (Civic Center)

Hawthorne Players’ begins its 2023 season with the hilarious Neil Simon play, Plaza Suite, at the Florissant Civic Center Theatre, located at Parker Rd. and Waterford Dr.

Director Colleen Heneghan says, “When I was considering what to direct to open our 76th season, I said it must be a Neil Simon comedy. We need to laugh, and we need reminders of good times and how important the people in our life are. Plaza Suite hits all the marks.”

The play features three couples successively occupying a suite at The Plaza in New York. A suburban couple take the suite and can’t agree they honeymooned 23 (or was it 24?) years before—and was yesterday the anniversary, or is it today? A Hollywood producer who, after three marriages, calls a childhood sweetheart, now a suburban housewife, for a little sexual diversion. The last couple is fighting about the best way to get their daughter out of the bathroom and down to the ballroom where guests await.

This year, Hawthorne has changed its first Saturday from an evening to a matinee. Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. on March 24, 31, and April 1, with matinees at 2 p.m. on March 25 and April 2.
