Hazelwood West High School held a Cancer Awareness Softball Game on Friday, Sept. 12 to help to support a teamate. The players from Hazelwood West and Pattonville wore lime green and purple in support of Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.

The softball team, student council and student body at West raised $2007 and presented a check to Friends of Kids with Cancer in a small ceremony prior to the game.

A right fielder on the Hazelwood West junior varsity softball team, Danielle Kilburn was diagnosed in March of 2010 with stage 2 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.  She received 26 chemo treatments at St. Louis Children’s Hospital and 14 radiation treatments at St. Louis Siteman Cancer Center. She officially went into remission in November 2010.  Danielle now receives her follow up care at the Cardinal Care Cancer Center at Mercy Hospital.
