Lowery Reports City Sales Tax, Other City Revenues Are Up

Florissant Mayor Robert Lowery has announced that after meeting with the city’s director of finance and with additional funds from a suit with several wireless companies, the city is “in good financial condition.”

In a statement, the mayor said the city has received $102,000 more this year in sales tax, $112,000 more from road and bridge taxes $54,000 more in grants and the utility tax has brought in an extra $104,000.

Florissant, along with l other municipalities, recently settled with several wireless companies in a suit jointly filed with several cities. To date, the mayor said Florissant has received $1.679,438 from that lawsuit.

Lowery said all this comes at a good time, because the 2008-09 proposed budget will include up front expenses for the next phase of the Lindbergh enhancement from, from Charbonier to Patterson and reconfiguration of Highway 67 by MoDot for a new bridge at Greenway Chase. The city puts funding for these projects up front and is reimb ursed 80 percent by grants when they are completed.
