Missouri School Boards’ Association Recognizes Hazelwood School Board

Students aren’t the only ones learning at the Hazelwood School District. Members of the Board of Education also continue their professional development and learning. Recently Board members learned they are being recognized for their leadership and learning.

The Missouri School Boards’ Association (MSBA) announced the Hazelwood School District Board of Education as a recipient of the 2014 Governance Team Award.

According to MSBA, the Hazelwood School District Board of Education is one of only 22 of Missouri’s 520 public school districts to achieve this distinction this school year. As a recipient of the award, the Hazelwood School District Board of Education met the following criteria:

  • All seven school board members have obtained Essential Certified Board Member (CBM) certification from MSBA (or were grandfathered from the requirement).
  • At least two board members have attained the Advanced CBM level of certification from MSBA.
  • At least one board member has attained the Master’s level of certification.
  • A quorum of the board and superintendent attended MSBA’s 2013 Annual Conference.
  • A quorum of the board and superintendent attended either MSBA’s 2013 Spring or Fall Regional meetings.
  • The District was represented at MSBA’s 2014 Legislative Forum in Jefferson City.
  • A board representative participated in MSBA’s 2013 Delegate Assembly.
  • Members of the Hazelwood School District Board of Education who have received their CBM certification from MSBA include: President Desiree Whitlock (Master CBM), Vice President Dr. Brenda Youngblood (Advanced CBM), Secretary Karlton Thornton (Advanced CBM), Treasurer Mark Behlmann (Master CBM), Director Cheryl Latham (Advanced CBM), Director Ann Gibbons (Master CBM), and Director Chuck Woods (Master CBM).

The Hazelwood School District Board of Education will be honored for its commitment to board improvement and leadership at the MSBA Leadership Summit in Osage Beach on Friday, June 6.
