Warrants were issued Thursday, May 22, for Thomas Oates III by the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office
for Murder in the Second Degree (2 counts) and Armed Criminal Action (2 counts).
On Wednesday, May 21, at around 5:12pm, the Florissant Police Department responded to a report of a shooting in the parking lot of 13101 New Halls Ferry Road. Upon the officers’ arrival, they found the victims (Darrah Lane , 17 years old and Leon Davis, 27 years old) seated in a passenger vehicle with one gunshot wound each. Attempts were made to perform first aid; however Lane and Davis were dead.
An investigation by the Florissant Police Department revealed that Oakes got into a disagreement with Lane and Davis while seated in the back seat of Lane’s vehicle. Florissant Police say he disagreement escalated, and Oakes pulled a gun, and shot both victims. While searching for Oates, he was located in the City of Jennings. Oates was arrested without incident, and transported to the Florissant Police Department. Once at the Florissant Police Department, Oakes confessed to his involvement in the incident, said a police department spokesman
Oates was transferred to the St. Louis County Jail, where he will be held on a bond.
