By Carol Arnett
After a string of relatively light meetings, the Florissant City Council held three public hearings and introduced several bills at Monday night’s council meeting. One public hearing involved a relocation, one a cell tower, and one involved a new building for a business that was in the city until recently.
In the first hearing, Hertz Rental Car told the council of their plans to relocate to 8115 N. Lindbergh. Councilman Joe Eagan, who represents the ward for the new location, was not at the meeting, but had sent word to Council President Keith Schildroth that he was in favor of the new locations. The city’s Planning and Zoning Commission (P and Z) had recommended approval of the new location at their meeting on April 21. The council held a first reading on a bill that would approve the project.
In the next hearing, the council heard from representatives of AT&T. The company would like to put a cell phone tower at 15245 New Halls Ferry Road, on property owned by the Eagles Lodge.
The monopole tower would be 95 feet high. AT&T’s antennae would be located at 75 feet, and there would be room for two other carriers to place antennas on the tower. The AT&T representative explained that since the tree line in the area was at 60 feet, the tower would have to be 95 feet to accommodate three carriers. The working area at the base of the tower would be surrounded by a stone wall. P and Z recommended approval of the tower at their meeting on April 21. The council held a first and second reading on the bill that would approve the tower and postponed a third and final reading to the May 27 meeting.
The third hearing was about a proposed new business at 14070 New Halls Ferry Rd. This lot is between the entrance to Lowe’s and Cross Keys Auto. A new building would be built at the site for a Dollar Tree store. Councilman Ben Hernandez represents the ward in which the site is located. He said he had no problems with the business, and P and Z recommended approval for the plan.
In other action, the council:
• Passed a bill authorizing the transfer of a special use permit from tom and Mary Anne Manning to Hurlbut Investments Florissant LLC for the location and operation of a service station located at 1280 N. Hwy 67. The Mannings have owned the station for approximately 50 years.
• Approved a request by Patricia Newman to keep four hens at her home on Randell Ct.
• Held a first reading on a bill that would change the parking regulations for businesses in the city.
