Historic Florissant, Inc. Presents Zimmerman Awards, Sunday, June 1

Historic Florissant’s second annual Lois Zimmerman Preservation Award ceremony will be held at the Franz Gittemeier House on Sunday, June 1, at 2 p.m. The Gittemeier House is located at 1067 Dunn Road in Florissant.

This year, the honor of the Zimmerman Award will go to Hal Schuchmann, former Florissant City Councilman from Ward 6. Schuchmann was instrumental in helping establish the Historic District in Old Town in the late 1960s. The presentation to Schuchmann follows the theme of this year’s celebration of 50 years of historic preservation in the City of Florissant. Two other Historic Florissant Awards will be presented Sunday as well.

The creation of the Lois Zimmerman award was made in honor of the memory of Lois Zimmerman, one of the original members of Historic Florissant, Inc. She and her husband owned and restored Casa Alverez and her work on many other historic homes is still evident in the city.

The Award Ceremony will be held from 2-4 p.m., and is open to the public without charge. Light refreshments will be served.
