Former Hazelwood Mayor Named to County Police Board

TRCarrpg 1Former Hazelwood Mayor T. R. Carr has been named to the St. Louis County Board of Police Commissioners. Carr was nominated by County Executive Charlie Dooley and approved by the St. Louis County Council.

Carr was one of two nominees to the board. The other, Robert Baer, was rejected by the county council due to concerns some council members had about his ties to Dooley’s campaign manager.

The board has been troubled in recent months, and three of the five seats were vacant before Carr’s appointment. The board must have three members to vote. Former board member Gregory Sansone, who resigned this summer, is under investigation because he is part owner of a company that was awarded a $3.7 million contract for the new police lab. In the past few months, Dooley has nominated three other candidates who withdrew their names from consideration.

Carr lives in Hazelwood and works at Southern Illinois University – Edwardsville. He is a professor and heads the Master of Public Administration program. He was the mayor of Hazelwood from 2000-2009.

The council was unanimous in voting for Carr’s approval.
