Building St. Louis Awards Recipient

Hazelwood Logistics Center was one of three finalists selected for the Public/Private Project more than $10 million award category at the The St. Louis Business Journal’s 2018 Building St. Louis Awards night last week at the Windows on Washington. The other winners included the World Wide Technology Headquarters and Everly On the Loop. The City of Hazelwood and NorthPoint Development were honored for their partnership of this project.

The Business Journal’s annual awards program recognizes outstanding renovations and developments that have had an impact in their communities. Projects are grouped into six award categories based on the type of development and amount of investment.

NorthPoint Development, based in Kansas City, is credited with resurrecting Hazelwood Logistics Center (HLC) after purchasing the park in 2015. At the time, HLC was foreclosed on and in need of environmental clean-up. Since that time, NorthPoint has cleaned up the contamination and constructed six large industrial warehouse buildings.

Two additional buildings will be completed this spring.

Noteworthy tenants at HLC include Amazon, the company’s first presence in the state of Missouri, TAGG Logistics, Quiet Logistics and Bunzl. HLC’s economic impact to the region consists of 1.9 million square feet of warehouse/office space, the creation of more than 1,817 jobs, and a capital investment of about $109 million.

Nathaniel Hagedorn, NorthPoint CEO, was enthused about receiving the award and said, “It was a well-deserved recognition for the City of Hazelwood.” He added, “The City of Hazelwood has been an outstanding partner, terrifically responsive and a true partner to help grow the economic base.”

NorthPoint will soon begin development of their second project, Hazelwood Trade Port. The company has purchased 324 acres of land from private property owners near Park 370 and St. Louis Outlet Mall. The company plans to build 9 industrial warehouse buildings there. The project is estimated to create 3.9 million square feet of warehouse/office space and add more than 2,163 new jobs.
