Grace Hill Health Centers Inc., which operates five health centers and a community health program in St. Louis, now offers audiology services for adults age 60 and over through the Center for Hearing & Speech, a St. Louis-based charity, at the Water Tower Health Center, 4414 North Florissant Avenue.

Audiology services are available from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. every Tuesday.  Appointments can be made by calling 314-968-4710.  A doctor of audiology with the Center for Hearing & Speech is available for audiology services at Water Tower Health Center each Tuesday.  Senior residents of north St. Louis and near North County are invited to make appointments for comprehensive auditory testing.

Costs for audiology services and hearing aids can be heavily subsidized, with sliding fees based upon financial need for uninsured patients.  Missouri Medicaid, Medicare and some private, commercial insurance plans are accepted.  Financial scholarships are available for those who qualify.

Approximately 260,000 people in the St. Louis metropolitan area have some type of hearing loss.  More than 28 million Americans suffer from hearing loss, a number expected to double by 2030. Audiology is a clinical service that evaluates and treats most hearing disorders.  Audiologists can determine when someone is in need of a hearing aid as well as provide counsel about the benefits and limitations of using a hearing aid.

Audiology services are provided at Grace Hill’s Water Tower Health Center through collaboration with the Center for Hearing & Speech, a St. Louis-based, non-profit organization founded in 1920.  The Center’s audiologists and speech/language pathologists have doctoral or master’s degrees, are state licensed and nationally certified.  Each year thousands of people are served by the Center’s dedicated professionals.

Comprehensive  audiologic evaluations include tympanometry, air and bone conduction pure tone thresholds and speech discrimination testing.  The Center for Hearing & Speech provides hearing aids through its financial assistance programs as well as additional hearing aid services such as custom ear-mold impressions for new or existing hearing aids, minor on-site hearing aid repairs and hearing aid programming adjustments.

Grace Hill Health Centers Inc., an agency of Grace Hill, began in 1906 with a small community health and pharmaceutical service.  Sister agency Grace Hill Settlement House was founded in 1903 by the Episcopal Diocese to help immigrant families “settle into their new neighborhood” on the near north side of St. Louis.
