Cinco de Mayo Village Added To 2008 Valley of Flowers

Hispanic Festival, Inc. of Greater St. Louis will present Cinco de Mayo Village at the James J. Eagan Center during the Valley of Flowers Festival on Friday, May 2 and Saturday, May 3. Admission is free to the village.

This colorful event will feature folkloric dance groups of children and adults from Mexico and other various countries. You’ll be able to enjoy Kids Mex, a group of children who perform traditional dances from Mexico including the Mexican Hat Dance. The Hispanic Cultural Dancers will be performing folkloric Bolivian dance with authentic costumes.

Live Latino bands will play throughout each day including salsa and merengue bands. Salsa lessons will also be available.

There will be a wide variety of foods and beverages from Latin and South America such as tacos, Argentinean empanadas, pan dulce and Bolivian shish ka bobs. Expect to quench your thirst with Jose Cuervo margaritas and Miller beer products.

Other attractions include an array of folk arts and crafts from Ecuador, Mexico and Guatemala. Featured items include sweaters, handbags, jewelry, ponchos, dresses, pottery and much more.

Over 50 booths from several organizations will be present some offering door prizes, giveaways and more.

One of the fair’s purposes is to celebrate the common heritage of the Hispanic nations. Portions of the funds raised are used for scholarships distributed to college-bound students as well as to underprivileged children.
