Hype For Cards’ ’08 Season Seems Less

BY RANDY GARDNER

It’s only a few days away now. The Cardinals Opening Day. Is it me or does there just not seem to be as much hype this year about it. I know the ballpark was new for us before and that played into the hype and last year, the Cards were coming off a World Series victory, but it’s been pretty quite.

I really think that people are sure what to expect if they are expecting much at
all out of this team this year.

There will be several new faces on the field. I have heard from some that it is a team that many can not connect with because we have lost fan favorites like Jim Edmunds and David Eckstein. Does this affect a team and the way that fans perceive them?. I believe so.

But it all comes down to winning– winning solves everything. After seeing this
team play, I pray that Albert Pujols stays healthy because we need that big bat in the lineup. It is very important as always to get the first couple on base and let Pujols hit his magic or it will be a long season for all of us Cards fans.

It’s also really good to see Rick Ankiel making good with his chance again. This just goes to show you never give up even when everything is against you. Things can change with dedication and hard work.

Good Idea to Move Rams Training Camp

How about the Rams talking about moving training camp out of St. Louis once again? Personally, I think that it is a great ideal. The guys just have to much familiarity around here during camp, too many distractions. When you are away like they were in Macomb, it’s all football all the time because there is nothing else to do. From the sounds of it, Wisconsin seems to be a place that Linehan is looking at— anywhere in Wisconsin. I think the players would like the milder summer weather there by a few degrees and it would give them that chance to bond everyday as a team away from family, friends, and fans.

Is this a blow to the fans as far as watching the practices?. I don’t think so because the attendance is pretty scarce anyway. The real fans will make the treck wherever they are just like in Macomb. Maybe that change of scenery will do this team some good. We really need a good season around here for this team this year and it all starts with the attitudes going into training camp.

I cannot wait to read Jose Consecos new book, even though I am sick and tired of the whole steroid thing. It seems really juicy and filled with a lot of items that are really going to spark some discussion including players that were trying to pick up his wife and players that were introduced to the steroid suppliers. Its just another chapter in the never ending story of what is wrong with sports today.
