Two weeks after competing in the National Junior College Athletic Association Indoor Track & Field Championships, St. Louis Community College opens the outdoor schedule last Friday at Washington University in St. Louis.
Florissant Valley teams each finished fourth in team standings in the Twilight Meet. The women, coming off a seventh-place finish in the NJCAA Indoor Championships, scored 75 points, behind three four-year Missouri-based universities. Teams finishing ahead of the Norsewomen are Washington University (153), Lincoln University-Jefferson City (142) and Missouri S&T (formerly Missouri-Rolla) (93).
On the men’s side Florissant Valley scored 68 points and, like the women, finished behind three four-year, Missouri-based universities. The Norsemen finished behind Missouri S&T (201), Washington Univ. (131) and Lincoln Univ. (117).
NJCAA champion Teneshia Peart, a freshman from Lester Pearson, Canada, won the 400-Meter Dash but she was not the only winner last Friday at the Bushyhead Track — which surrounds historic Francis Field, site of the 1904 Olympics. Flo Valley won the Women’s 4×100-Meter Relay while the other winners were freshman Ashley Zanders, 100-Meter Dash, and sophomore Courtney Jones, 200-Meter Dash.
Zanders took second in the 100-Meter Hurdles, freshman Bionca Gildon was second in the 400-Meter Dash, freshman Kristin McCoy took third in the 200-meter dash, freshman Kalinda Horton (Hazelwood Central) was fourth in the 100-
Meter Dash, sophomore Ysatis Williams finished sixth in the 400-Meter Dash, freshman Shanay Haynes (Riverview Gardens) was eighth in the 100-Meter Dash and freshman Kristal Jackson took eighth in the shot put.
On the men’s side freshman Terence Hawkins won the Triple Jump. In relay teams the Norsemen took third in the 4×400-Meter Relays and fourth in the 4×100-Meter Relays. Among the men’s finishers in the top eight freshman Jordan Maxwell took second in the triple jump and fifth in the Long Jump, freshman George White (Hazelwood Central) took second in the 100-Meter Dash and eighth in 200-Meter Dash, freshman Blake Austin took fourth in the 1,500-Meter Run and 3,000-Meter Steeplechase, freshman Josh Vaughn took fourth in the 400-Meter Hurdles, freshman Brandon Dillard took sixth in the 200-Meter Dash, sophomore Stevie Dotson (Jennings) took seventh in Discus as well as Shot Put and freshman Jeremy Thomas (Hazelwood Central) took eighth in the 400-Meter Dash.
Florissant Valley Track & Field Teams return to Bushyhead Track this Thursday-Saturday for the Washington University Invitational. Flo. Valley does not have a home meet but will be at Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville for the Cougar Classic on April 5 and the Twilight Meet on April 26..
