Hazelwood West Baseball Has 11-2 Start Through April, 5-1 In SNC

Through 13 games Hazelwood West Baseball, despite rain outs and severe thunderstorms including a tornado, is enjoying an 11-2 start prior to rainouts on April 27 that postponed their games at the Fort Zumwalt North Tournament.

Prior to April 27 Hazelwood West is 8-1 in the month of April and is 5-1 in the Suburban North Conference. Most of April games were in the Suburban North including two wins over McCluer North and one win each over Hazelwood East, Ritenour and McCluer as well as a loss to Pattonville. West, also, had a non-conference win over Kirkwood and wins in the Fort Zumwalt North Tournament over Centralia (do not know if it is Missouri or Illinois) and Priory.

Prior to the month of April Hazelwood West was 3-1 in the Lindbergh/Mehlville Tournament. The Wildcats won over Mehlville, Lindbergh and Oakville and a loss to Northwest-Cedar Hill.

Offensively, prior to April 27, Teddy Molinari was batting .452 with 19 hits, an on base percentage of .500, 22 total bases and was slugging .524. Devin Williams has scored 13 runs including two homers while Aaron Lohmann has 14 runs batted in. About 17 of the 18-players on the Wildcat varsity has a combined total of 57 walks, including  Zach Paige with six, and the Wildcats as a team has stolen 27 bases, including Carl Nichols with six, on 29 attempts.

In pitching, prior to April 27 Williams is 4-1, losing only to Pattonville, with a 0.70 earned run average with three earned runs scored by Pattonville and Williams leads the Wildcats with 54 strikeouts. Connor Manis is 3-1 losing only to Northwest-Cedar Hill, Jared Fosdick has 27 strikeouts and Jordan Yakel has 21 strikeouts.

Hazelwood West had conference rematches earlier this week in the Suburban North including Hazelwood East to close the month of April and Ritenour to open May. Upcoming conference games in May include a rematch with McCluer plus games against Hazelwood Central and Riverview Gardens. The Wildcats also have non-conference games against Parkway West, Fort Zumwalt West and Francis Howell Central. prior to hosting Class Five, District Six.

TRINITY CATHOLIC — After losing four of their first five games Trinity Catholic has won 11 of their last 12, not counting two mid-April rainouts and took a 12-5 overall record prior to an April 29 game at Whitfield. In the Archdiocesan Athletic Association Trinity, prior to April 30, is 5-1 losing only to Lutheran-St. Charles County.

Trinity won three games in the North County Classic as the Titans defeated University City, Hazelwood East and Hazelwood Central. Trinity has two wins each over John F. Kennedy, Orchard Farm and Cardinal Ritter plus one win each over McCluer, O’Fallon Christian and Metro-East Lutheran (Edwardsville, Ill.). Besides losing two to Lutheran North the Titans also lost to Affton and Principia.

Offensively, prior to April 29, Mike Thiemet is batting .466 and slugging .776 with 27 hits including nine doubles, three home runs and 26 runs batted in. Luke Conner has an on base percentage of .574 with 12 walks and two homers, Nolan Walsh has scored 22 runs and Evan McNiff has stolen 14 bases.

In pitching, prior to April 29, Nick Moehlenkamp (4-3) has a 2.36 earned run average with 49 strikeouts, Casey Gallagher, (2-0), has a 2,33 ERA with 20 strikeouts, Tanner Effinger (2-0) has 18 strikeouts and Nathan Klump (3-0) has struck out 17.

Trinity had AAA rematches earlier in the week against Lutheran St. Charles County and O’Fallon Christian, is scheduled to play Bishop DuBourg May 4 at Koch Park as part of the Valley of Flowers Festival then plays Bayless prior to Class Three, District Five at Lutheran North.
