Within the next several months, the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) will be removing two traffic signals on Route 67 (Lindbergh) near Jamestown Mall. MoDOT indicates that traffic levels on the roadway there no longer require a traffic signal.

The two signals on Lindbergh at Jamestown East and Jamestown Mall will be put on flash on Tuesday April 16. After 30 days, the department will turn off the signals and cover the heads.  About two months later, the signals will be removed.

The delay in removing the signals lets MoDOT monitor traffic on those roadways before completely removing the overhead signals.  The delay will also let the department determine what, if any, traffic control may be needed at the mall.

Once the signals are removed in late spring or early summer, the department will update the existing signals on Route 67 (Lindbergh) at Old Jamestown and Robbins Mill. As part of the update, MoDOT is installing flashing yellow arrows. These left turn signals use a flashing yellow arrow, pointed left, instead of a solid green signal, to indicate that drivers may make a yielding left turn.  Since drivers tend to associate “green” with “go”, and “yellow” with “caution”, studies have shown that drivers more easily understand the flashing yellow arrow.

The new signals will use red arrows as well.  The current signs will be replaced with a new sign “Left Turn Yield on Flashing Arrow.” During those periods of heavier traffic on Lindbergh and Robbins Mill, drivers will have a green arrow, allowing them to make a protected left turn.

MoDOT has previously installed signals with flashing yellow arrows on Lindbergh in Florissant and Hazelwood.
