Coming off a 5-9 season a year ago the Incarnate Word Academy Girls Lacrosse team starts this year with a 3-1 record winning three in a row after losing the season opener, March 17, to Francis Howell North, 6-1 in the opening game of the Parkway Central Tournament.
IWA rebounded that day in the Parkway Central Tournament with wins over Hazelwood East, 6-3, and Parkway North, 6-5 in overtime. Five days later, March 22 at St. Vincent Park Field Number One, the Red Knights won the rematch with Parkway North, 6-4. IWA is scheduling to host Northwest-Cedar Hill Thursday, March 29 at 4:15 then travels to Francis Howell North April 4 in a 6:45 rematch.
PARKWAY CENTRAL TOURNAMENT — in the loss to Francis Howell North, junior Zoe Marbs scored a first-half goal, her first of two, but that was it. Francis Howell North scored four goals in the first half and added two more in the second. Autumn Schrader scored two goals for Howell North while Heaven-Lee Nichols picked up four ground balls and goalkeeper Elizabeth Wagner made seven saves.
Against Hazelwood East five Red Knights scored at least a goal. Sophomore Frankie Paige, with five goals overall, scored twice. It was 6-3 in favor of IWA at halftime and it was scoreless in the second half.
In the first game against Parkway North the Red Knights trailed 3-2 at halftime, then outscores the Vikings 3-2 in the second half and got the game-winner in overtime. Paige and freshman Sydney Bauer each scored twice while senor Ana Linhares, who had three goals, added another. In the regulation 50 minutes senior goalie Grace Rodriguez, who had 17 saves, made six.
REMATCH WITH PARKWAY NORTH — IWA outscored Parkway North 5-3 in the second half after the game was 1-1 at halftime. Rodriguez won the rematch for the Red Knights with 11 saves while Paige, Linhares, senior Julianne Case and senior Kaila Henderson, who has two goals, each scored once. Overall, Paige and senior Reanna Radford won three draw controls, while in CTOs junior Ashley Juniewicz has three.
IWA TOURNAMENT — On April 21, beginning at 8 a.m., Incarnate Word hosts a four-team round robin — with Francis Howell Pattonville and Belleville Township in the field.
HAZELWOOD WEST TOURANMENT — Playing on the Lacrosse Field and Football Stadium the tournament begins April 6 with a pair of 4:15 games, Parkway South versus Rockwood Marquette and Hazelwood West versus Kirkwood, and a pair of 5:45 games, Clayton versus Ladue and Pattonville versus Rockwood Summit. On April 7 losers play at 9 a.m., winners play at 10:30 a.m. After that the seventh-place and consolation finals are at 12 noon while the third place and championship games are at 1:30.
