Black Jack Residents Cried Fowl, New Ordinance Will Allow Chicken

The City of Black Jack City Council recently passed Ordinance #1045, which allows residents to keep fowl on their property pursuant to certain regulations. The Mayor and City Council worked with the residents to amend a 10- year-old ordinance.

The new ordinance will grandfather current chicken owners as long as they apply for a permit before March 1, 2013. There are also stipulations in the new ordinance which include a maximum of 6 chickens, one-acre minimum lot size, and the issuance of only 10 permits within the City.

Mayor Norm McCourt stated, “This is the perfect example of how we as a City Government work with our resident’s for an acceptable solution to a Community issue. Residents who had chickens had brought the issue up to the city council on several occasions the past few months
