Participating businesses and organizations have come together to reveal sites that showcase the pride of North County – a community pride that is evidenced by the partners and sponsors who have enthusiastically responded to this event.
“It is so important that our businesses and community leaders work together to keep North County strong,” says the Greater North County Chamber of Commerce. “Our businesses are as strong as our community; therefore it is our duty to play an active role.”
Marillyn Webb, executive director of Pallottine Renewal Center and originator of the Staycation weekend says, “I reached out to many venues and by the time I hosted my first Staycation planning meeting, there were so many incredible volunteers eager to help put this weekend together.” Rick Dorsey, the President of the Florissant Rotary said, “North County has many wonderful hidden treasures” they, along with the Pallottine Missionary Sisters are Platinum sponsors. Other supporting vendors from Pallottine are endorsing the weekend with a Gold Sponsorship – Best Transportation, Daniel and Henry Insurance Company and Alsco Linen and Uniform Services.
“Staycationers” will retreat with overnight hospitality at Pallottine, venturing out on a chartered bus for activities, like sampling the best food in town with “A Taste of North County,” including Catering to You, Krause Katering and Kakes, Pirrone’s Pizzeria, Cannoli’s Restaurant, and Hendel’s Restaurant.
A tour of historic sites, 18th century homes and natural landmarks includes a visit to the Daniel Bissell House Tour, Ft. Bellefontaine, the Taille De Noyer House and St. Ferdinand Shrine. Danny Gonzales, public historian for St. Louis County, says that the Staycation program is a great opportunity for people in St. Louis and beyond to explore Missouri’s oldest county, which dates back to the 1700s – a history that is too often overlooked. “This program will give outside residents a wonderful view of the richness of the region, and those who live in the community an opportunity to see their home with new eyes.”
The history continues with a July 22 concert by the Missouri Bottom Project, whose repertoire includes not only original contemporary music and traditional folk, but songs that relate to the North County area, the home of the band members. The concert is open to the public as well, enabling all to experience a piece of this special weekend.
Rebecca Zoll president of North County, knows that North County has so much to offer that the impact of the Staycation will continue well past the weekend itself. “The communities in North St. Louis County offer so much rich history, recreational and overall unique experiences that once people visit our many exciting venues, they are impressed and come back,” says Rebecca Zoll, president of North County Inc.
The Staycation is $235 per person, all inclusive. For more information about Staycation 2017, including the complete itinerary, participating businesses and organizations, and sponsors go to www.pallottinerenewal.org/staycation-summer-2017/ or call 314-837-7100.
