A group of about 100 senior citizens gathered at the Villa at Riverwood last week for a “Good Luck, Good By” party for Lindsay Casmaer, Miss Missouri.
Lindsay, a Hazelwood resident, took the occasion to describe her goals and reasons for attempting to become Miss America and to tell her “neighbors” she is a home town girl.
The location of the party was fitting because the Villa is just a few blocks from where Lindsay, her brother, Carter, and parents Pam and Dan Casmaer have resided since 1999.
Patty O’Leary, executive director of the Villa, told the crowd, “We are pleased to have someone who’s to represent us in the Miss America contest and who lives in the area where we live; we’re neighbors.” The Miss America pageant will be in January in Las Vegas.
Lindsay served as Miss Hazelwood in 2000. She is a graduate of Hazelwood West High School, a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania with a major in bio-science and she is currently working as a researcher at Washington University.
Miss Missouri has let it be known that in the contest, her chosen worthy cause in her platform is the fight against cyber bullying. She says she wants to protect young people from cyber bullies and teach them to be safe on the internet. In the talent part of the contest she will perform ballet on pointe.
She briefly described her recent activities. “I have traveled to all parts of Missouri. In fact I have driven 7,000 miles to meet the people, talk to students in schools and at the Whiteman Air Force base I gave a personal thanks to the veterans.”
She thanked the large gathering in attendance, “Thanks for your support; having this support means a lot to me. The City of Hazelwood has been very kind to me , and I have a special place in my heart for the city and for St. Louis; I’m a Home Town girl.”
Gwen Reed, representing Congressman Lacey Clay, presented a proclamation honoring Miss Missouri and Mayor T. R. Carr presented a proclamation from the Hazelwood City Council.
Mayor Carr expressed the sentiments of the City Council when he said, “She (Miss Missouri) does in fact represent all that is great and all that is good in North County. You will represent Missouri very well and we wish you all the best.”
