Veteran of the Year Award to be Presented after Sunday’s Parade

Kenneth Hoffman

Kenneth L. Hoffman has been selected as the 2012 Florissant Veteran of the Year.  The St. Louis County Veterans Coalition selected Hoffman from several well-qualified candidates.

Hoffman served in the Air Force during the Korean War. His service to the community after his military years was a contributing factor in his selection.

Hoffman and his wife of 51 years had three children, three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

The Veteran of the Year must be honorably discharged, be a Florissant resident, and be and active volunteer to the community.

Hoffman will receive the Veteran of the Year award at a presentation at the James J. Eagan Center following the Veterans’ Parade on Sunday, November 11. The parade begins at 1 p.m.

John Cahalin, who was last year’s Veteran of the year, will be the Parade Marshall. Florissant Police Office Michael Vernon, who was injured in the line of duty, will be the honorary Parade Marshall. Vernon is also a veteran who served in Iraq.

The 2.5-mile parade begins at the corner St. Charles and St. Francois, goes east on  St. Francois, one block south on New Florissant to East on St. Catherine, North on Waterford Drive, and ends at the James J. Eagan Center.

Refreshments will be served inside the Eagan Center after the parade for parade participants. Over 70 units are participating in the parade, including military vehicles, drum corps, marching bands, elected officials and many others paying tribute to our  veterans.
