BY JIM WIENERS
Best Wishes to all readers of The Independent News for the holiday season but before 2008 begins there is one thing that television watchers need if they like New Year’s Day Parades and Football Games.
That wish is: A very good television remote control.
On New Year’s Day, at 10 a.m., the Tournament of Roses Parade will be seen on several channels including commercial free on Home and Garden Television (HGTV).
At 10:30 a.m., on the Fox Network (KTVI Channel 2) the Cotton Bowl Football game, pitting the University of Missouri Tigers against the University of Arkansas Razorbacks.
What a dilemma, what to watch. That is where the remote comes in.
It may be annoying to some but the remote can keep people on top of what is going on in the Cotton Bowl and the Tournament of Roses Parade. They might want to keep track on what Mizzou is doing against the Hogs while trying to find out when the Budweiser Clydesdale Horses make their appearance in the parade. Also there may be fans of the University of Illinois Football team whose cheerleaders, band and float are scheduled to make an appearance in the parade before the Rose Bowl Game against the University of Southern California Trojans (USC).
So a good remote comes in handy, especially since there are three other College Football Bowl games on the air early, the Outback Bowl at 10 a.m., the Gator Bowl and the Capital One Bowl at 12 noon and 12:30.
The Remote may be useful after getting tired of watching Parades and College Bowl games. Don’t worry those who get tired of football games beginning at 3:45 p.m. that remote could be useful for watching other T.V. programs. But there is one wish that can not be granted; what to watch other than football and one suggestion; have a television magazine or T.V. Guide.
Now, for the other wishes;
TO MISSOURI HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL FANS: Hope that, starting in the fall, 2008, the new qualifying format for post-season playoffs (the top two teams per each district) meets with the fans’ approval.
TO ST. LOUIS UNIVERSITY MEN’S AND WOMEN’S BASKETBALL, AND WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL: When the Chaifetz Arena opens in less than a year may it bring blue chip athletes and support from on-campus students.
TO ALL OUR PROFESSIONAL TEAMS: Are we in a rebuilding mold? If so have the patience to bear with it….2008 could a trying years for the Cards, Rams and the Blues.
TO THOSE WISHES THAT ARE NOT MENTIONED: May all of those wishes come true.
