Chase Daniels Will Be Back; Tigers Need Win Jan. 1 Over the Hogs

BY RANDY GARDNER

Just as stated in my last column, there was no way that Chase Daniels was going to win the Heisman. Surprisingly to me though, was his number of votes that he did not receive. He was fourthplace in voting by a lot. That last game against Oklahoma really did him in.

It wasn’t all a loss though for Chase Daniels as he had a great season and gained a lot of national media attention including the cover of Sports Illustrated which I am sure will not hurt for next year.

The school couldn’t ask for any more attention than what the football program brought them. You can’t buy that kind of exposure so that is why in my estimation; you give Gary Pinkel and his staff the money they deserve to stay.

I actually went out shopping for a Mizzou wallet as a gift and could not find one anywhere. Even internet stores were sold out of them. This is what the football winning season has done to the Mizzou name across the country.

All we can hope for now is that the Black and Gold play well enough on Jan. 1st against a good Arkansas team so the Tigers can go out in style on a winning note. I feel a loss could really hurt their credibility this year. You know how the Missouri fans are; they will only remember the two losses at the end of the year instead of the great wins.

Another Day of Boring Rams Football—–
The Rams couldn’t win behind Mark Bulger, then Gus Ferrotte, nor Brock Berlin. I knew we were in trouble in cold rainy Cincinnati as Berlin quarterbacked the team on the road. He showed a few glances of brilliance but for the most part it was just another boring day of Rams football.

I was really impressed by Steven Jackson though as he put his head down and
ran the way he should, straight up the field like he has a chip on his shoulder. But why did he get so few carries in the second half?

Isaac Bruce was almost non existent out there on the field. At least throw in his direction once or twice a game. When you are down by a touchdown or so, throw the ball long at least two or three times in a series. With the way the NFL calls defensive interference you are bound to get a call at least one of the three times.

This Rams team has become just so predictable. This week they play the Packers at home and then have a short turn around with a Thursday night home game Dec. 20. Let’s at least light it up for the fans. Remember on that Thursday night game, Marshall Faulk’s jersey will be retired. This will be the highlight of the season in my opinion.

Why Can’t They get Along?
We have talked about this before but all I want for Christmas is for Scott Rolen and Tony LaRussa to make up and let’s get along with the season. Spring training is still weeks away and I am so sick and tired of hearing about it. Something has to give.

These guys are adults, lock them in a room and have it out and come to some kind of agreement. If not, let Rolen go at a loss to the organization. In sports, sometimes you pay a little and get a lot, other times you pay a lot and get a little.

Chalk it up to one of those experiences and move on.
