Officer Mike Vernon is paralyzed from the waist down after he was shot this past Memorial Day when responding to a call on a neighborhood burglary. He has spent the summer in physical therapy and still has a long way to go, but his morale is high.
“I’ve been inside all summer, but with all this heat its not a bad thing,” Vernon joked.
North County has risen up and supported Vernon this summer and many fundraisers have been held to help support Vernon, his wife Farrah, and their family through the early trials of his recovery. Vernon came to the concert to speak to the residents and personally thank them and acknowledge them for their support.
“I don’t like to speak in front of large crowds,” Vernon said, “but if there is one large crowd it would be the city of Florissant. You guys have gone above and beyond. I start every day and end every day with ‘Thank You’.”
It was announced at the concert that the St. Louis Cardinals will be honoring Officer Vernon at the Sept. 19 baseball game for an official “Mike Vernon Night at the Ballpark”. An entire section of $53 tickets are on reservation for Florissant residents at the special rate of $25. For more information and to reserve your tickets, residents can contact Officer Andy Haarman at 314-830-6042.
