IWA Returns To State Girls Volleyball; LHSN CC To State

Incarnate Word Academy, after losing last year in District Girls Volleyball to Parkway West, returns to State this Friday-Saturday at the University of Central Missouri, Warrensburg, It’s their 20th trip to state in 32 years as the Red Knights try to pad onto their Missouri State High School Activities Association record 11 titles.

Friday 4-9 p.m. IWA, Metro Women’s Athletic Association White Division rival Cor Jesu, Rockwood-Lafayette and Lee’s Summit West will play Class Four round-robin semifinal matches. Saturday the top two teams play at 4 p.m. for the Class Four State title while the bottom two play at 7 p.m. for third place.

On Oct. 24 IWA won their 27th district title when they won Class Four, District Five at Parkway North over Parkway Central, 25-17, 25-16, and Parkway West, 25-21, 32-30. Last Saturday at Pattonville IWA defeated Columbia-Hickman, 25-12, 25-15, and Francis Howell Central, 23-25, 25-16, 25-19.

Meanwhile, Lutheran High School North will be the only North St. Louis County High School to send their full teams to the Missouri State Cross Country Meet, this Saturday at the Oak Hills Golf Center, Jefferson City. LHSN will compete in Class Two and the girls will race at 9:40 a.m. while the boys race at 10:55 a.m.
Last Saturday at Class Two, District Two, at Spanish Lake Park both Lutheran North teams finished second and both scored 60 points. The LHSN boys finish 16 points behind ABC League rival John Burroughs and five ahead of Fort Zumwalt East, a school that just opened last August in St. Peters. LHSN girls finished six points behind Lutheran High-St. Charles County, also based in St. Peters, and 10 ahead of Zumwalt East.

Adam Prahlow, son of Lutheran North coach Jim Prahlow, won the boys race while Sarah Bachmann led the LHSN girls by finishing fifth. In Class Four the lists of individual entries from Florissant Valley area schools were not available except for Hazelwood East’s Charles Johnson, who finished eighth last Saturday in Sectional Two Boys at Forest Park.
