Hazelwood West, Lutheran North Win Baseball Districts

Hazelwood West and Lutheran North were winners in district baseball and were to play in the sectional round on May 22.

Hazelwood West won Class Four, District Six over McCluer North, 10-0, and Hazelwood Central, 5-3. Hazelwood West hosted St. Louis University High on May 22 and the winner plays Parkway North or Fort Zumwalt South May 24, site and time not available at press time. SLUH defeated Sumner, 10-0, Ritenour, 13-1, and Ladue-Horton Watkins, 3-2.

Lutheran North routed Northwest Academy of Transportation and Law, 26-1, Cardinal Ritter, 27-2, and Metro with McKinley Classical Leadership.19-0. Lutheran North hosted Lutheran South May 22 and the winner plays Kennett or Park Hills Central May 24 site and time not available at press time.

Hazelwood West only played five innings against McCluer North. A four-run fourth inning helped secure a rout as Devin Williams pitched a no-hit, no walk shutout while striking out nine. Joe Gagliardi scored three custom times, Oday Alyatim, Shane Olmstead and Matt Leimburge each drove in two.

Hazelwood West got a complete game performance against Hazelwood Central from Jared Fosdick, who struck out seven. The Wildcats scored two runs in the first inning and two more in the third innings. Olmstead and Alyatim each drove in two runs.

Lutheran North scored early and often in the three district wins. Lutheran North scored 16 runs in the first three innings against Northwest Academy including eight in the second. LHSN scored 19 in the first inning against Cardinal Ritter and 12 runs in the first inning against Metro.

Against Northwest Academy Greg Hardnett struck out 11, Evan Dalton scored five runs, Troy Guffey, Connor Buenger, D.J. Johnson, Cameron Jackson and Dan Zimmerman each scored three runs while Hardnett, Johnson, Josh Blight and Tyler Branneky each drove in three.

Against Cardinal Ritter Blight drove in five runs while scoring four runs, Johnson and Branneky each drove in four while Zimmerman and Laws each scored four runs. Against Metro Guffey and Justin Arnold each scored three runs while Blight drove in four runs.

Overall in district play Branneky and Guffey each had five doubles Blight drove in 12 runs, Johnson, Dalton and Zimmerman each scored nine runs and Hardnett struck out 11.
