Hazelwood Parks to Host Concerts Under the Stars

The Retro Nerds, a popular retro ‘80’s cover band, will kick-off this year’s 2012 Summer Concert Series sponsored by the Hazelwood Parks and Recreation Division on Saturday, May 19. They will play at Harry S. Truman Park, 7029 Howdershell Road, under the new gazebo.

“We thought we’d open our summer band schedule with four fun nerds who play the best hits of the 80’s with a pop, new-wave sound that made artists like Billy Idol, Romantics, and B-52s famous,” said Pam Reynolds, Hazelwood Community Center facility manager.  “The nerdy costumes they wear add to the audience’s enjoyable experience.”

The city will present these outdoor concerts on six Saturdays this summer. Admission for each of the concerts is free and open to the public.

“It’s a great opportunity to bring the family out for some quality entertainment that satisfies everyone’s musical taste.  The concerts also allow neighbors to meet each other and make new friends,” Reynolds added.

Audience members can bring their own lawn chairs, blankets, and refreshments, but no glass containers are allowed.  Parking is available in the park this year, but the space is limited.  Residents living near the park are encouraged to walk over for these events.

In case of rain, the concerts will be held at the Hazelwood Community Center, 1186 Teson Road, in White Birch Park.

The remaining dates and the bands playing are: June 16-Penny Moon and Copper Creek (country), July 7-Whole New Head (rock), July 28-Concoction (decades of top hits), August 18-Furious George (classic rock), and September 22-Super Jam (tribute to 70s-80s).
