Incarnate Word Soccer Second At St. Dominic/Howell North Shootout

Incarnate Word Academy Girls Soccer Team came home from St. Charles County with a second-place finish at the annual St. Dominic/Francis Howell North Shootout

Most of the games IWA played were at Francis Howell High School. They include a 3-2 win April 23 over Francis Howell, a 0-0 tie April 24 with Villa Duchesne and a 4-2 win April 26 over St. Francis Borgia. In the championship game, April 28 at Francis Howell North IWA lost 1-0 to Metro Women’s Athletic Association White Division rival Cor Jesu.

In the win over Francis Howell IWA made 20 shots but Francis Howell Goalkeeper Tiffany      Morris made 10 saves. However Melanie Donaldson, Allison Jetton and Maddie Orf each scored a Red Knight goal. Katie Skrivan had two assists.

In the scoreless tie against Villa Duchesne the Red Knights had 17 shots but Saints Goalkeeper Hanna Benben made 12 saves. IWA Goalkeeper Jenny Schnelting made six saves.

In the win over Borgia IWA had 33 shots but Borgia Goalkeeper Mackenzie Haddox made 13 saves Orf scored twice in the first half and assisted on two first half goals by Elly Freesmeier while Allie Zeilman had two first-half assists. Borgia had two Emily Grahl goals.

In the loss to Cor Jesu Incarnate peppered Cor Jesu Goalkeeper Sam Bersett with 17 shots but none of them got into the net despite the fact that Bersett attended her school’s prom on April 27. Schnelting made 10 saves but allowed a first-half goal by Jenn Miller. IWA hosts Cor Jesu in a May 9 MWAA White game at 4:15.

Prior to April 30, Incarnate Word has won nine games, lost three and tied one. In the Metro Women’s Athletic Association White Division games Incarnate Word won two games while losing none.
