Quiet Jeff Fischer Should Be Great Rams Leader

By Randy Gardner

What a week for the St. Louis Rams, they are the proud owners of a new head coach that comes with some serious credentials. I had written in the past that I would like to see John Gruden in St. Louis or Bill Cowher but I think that Jeff Fischer will do.

After hearing him at his press conference on Tuesday, It is clear that this guy is comfortable in his own shoes. That is something that we have not had in a while here in St. Louis.

Every coach in the past, except for Dick Vermeil,  I think had one eye over their shoulder worrying about their job. That is no way to live to coach. How effective can you be?

Jeff Fischer has a proven  track record and has nothing to prove to anyone. Sometimes  I think he almost comes off as a bit cocky but it is a cockiness that demands respect. I know that football season is a long way away but I think the fans and the entire franchise is rejuvenated. Afterall, the draft is only three months away.

I really like the no nonsense approach to the team that he brings. It will be fun to watch next year. How long do the fans need to give him to turn things around? Can he do it in one year or will it take a few years to change and get things his way. Either way, we know he can win and that is all that we the fans ask for. Anything better than a 2-14 season will be an improvement. In Jeff’s press conference he really hit home the point that he came to St. Louis because of the ownership, the commitment and the quarterback.

After walking away from the game to recharge, he said looks forward to this opportunity. He guaranteed that he will do whatever it takes to win football games.

Jeff is dedicated to restoring the franchise vision to take a trip to the White House like the Cardinals did on Tuesday and is excited about having a quarterback with a great arm. The Rams are a team that played hard but have a few holes and they will be filled with commitment from the owners and the new coach.

Watch Those 49ers against the Giants

Did you see any of the playoff games this past weekend, I was most intrigued by the 49er and Saints game. Nobody gave the 49ers a chance but they pulled it off at home. What a comeback for this team. I love the underdog winning. It’s such a great story in sports.

Will they be able to make the playoffs, I don’t know but it will be fun to watch. Honestly, I always route for the team that is expected to lose. So I guess you can see that I always chose to route for the Rams. It is really hard to believe that the Super Bowl is just a few weeks away. Do you have big plans with friends, or do you just sit at home and watch? Now that I have  three kids, it’s pretty much sit home and watch as a family. It’s really cool that my 7- year -old is getting  into it; even my wife is starting to understand the game and will roll off team names like she has known them all of her life. Something I would never have believed when we got married.
