Will Beckham Bring Out More Soccer Fans

BY RANDY GARDNER

Have you already noticed the changes in the United States since David Beckham has shown up? Good, neither have I.

Everyone said that the face of soccer would change in America as soon as he showed up. Granted he doesn’t play until this weekend with the LA Galaxy but as big of a soccer fan as I am, I still don’t see him changing the impact of the face of the game. I honestly think that it will just make the die hard fans appreciate the game a little more.

I think the paparazzi and the media are more intrigued with the Beckhams coming to the US than anyone else.
This is never m
ore evident than in Victoria Beckhams primetime TV special this week. I am really interested in talking to people and seeing the ratings after this weekend’s action. Sure, I think the ratings will spike for a week or two in certain markets around the country but it won’t last long. Too many people just don’t appreciate the sport of soccer and appreciate the way it is played.

———-Don’t Think Fishing is For Me
I had a chance this past weekend to get away for a couple of days and I have to say that I just don’t understand what the fuss is about fishing. There were so many fishing boats, fishing stores and fishermen themselves around the lake I couldn’t believe it.

I know this might make some people angry but I just don’t understand how you can just sit there and wait for a fish to grab onto a hook that they think is food. How would you like it if there was a big hook in your cheeseburger and you got yanked out of the driver’s side car door at our local food chain by some giant who was human fishing?

I know that’s kind of a crazy reality but it seems to make a little sense. I think you should have to get in the water and swim with them and catch them with your hands. Now that seems more like a sport to me. But regular fishing must be fun though because thousands of people do it every day, I just don’t have the patience to sit and wait. Ill go to the grocery store and get me a fish.

The River City Rage snuck themselves into the playoffs barely as they won on the last play of the game on a Steve Kutz field goal. They will play Sunday July 22nd at 3pm. This will probably be their last home game of the year so get out and support this team as they make a run for the championship.

Also this weekend, on Saturday July 21st, the NASCAR Busch series rolls into town. Next week I will have some quotes from many of the drivers as they talk about this track over at Gateway and how much they like driving it. With this being an off weekend for the Nextel Cup series a lot of those drivers will be at Gateway, so get out and support the series so maybe someday we can get that big race, the Nextel Cup Series.
