Northwest Chamber’s Mingle at the Mills Fundraiser is Sept. 16

Experience the thrill of speed driving go-karts around NASCAR SpeedPark’s Family 500 Track at the eighth annual Mingle at the Mills.  This free  event will be held at St. Louis Mills in Hazelwood on Friday, Sept. 16, from 4-10 p.m.  A portion of the race entry fees, Mayor’s Challenge Cup raffle, and event sales will benefit area charities, the Chamber Scholarship Fund and the Northwest Chamber of  Commerce.

The Northwest Chamber of Commerce is partnering with NASCAR SpeedPark to host this outdoor, family-friendly event featuring go-kart races, a chicken wing cook-off, a car cruise, live music, as well as delicious food and beverages.  Those who love the competitive atmosphere of racing can sign up as a charity race driver and try to win up to $500 for their favorite charity.  The entry fee is $100.  To qualify as a participant, all drivers must be at least 47” tall.  A field of 10 drivers will be posted for each race.  Fifty percent of the entry fees collected for each race will go to the winner’s charity of choice, totaling up to $500.

Challenge Cup Go-Kart Races will take place in between the Charity Go-Kart Races for an entry fee of $10.  Fields of 10 drivers compete in each heat for a chance to earn a spot in the Challenge Cup Final.  Participants can race multiple times.

Other attractions at the event include the “King of Wings 500” and the second annual Classic Car Cruise.  The “King of Wings 500” is a chicken wing cook-off between several local restaurants.  Attendees can enjoy an all-you-can-eat affair for the price of a $10 ticket in advance.  Tickets sold at the door are $12 each.  To purchase tickets call (314) 291-2131.

After sampling all the chicken wings, each person can cast his/her vote for the “People’s Choice” Best Wings award.

Reminisce about yesteryear by viewing

some sweet rides displayed at the Classic Car Cruise, located next to NASCAR SpeedPark in the parking lot.  Participation includes area car club members and individual car owners.  Commemorative dash plaques and goody bags will be given away to the first 50 custom or classic cars that show up to the event.

Those whose legs tire easily can hitch a ride in one of several golf carts transporting people back and forth from the race track.

The grand finale will be the running of the Mayor’s Challenge Cup, presented by American Airlines.  This is a 20-lap, go-kart race that pits mayors representing up to 17 different North St. Louis County communities against each other.

The participating municipalities include Bellfontaine Neighbors, Berkeley, Bridgeton, Charlack, Cool Valley, Dellwood, Edmundson, Ferguson, Florissant, Hazelwood, Overland, Pasadena Hills, St. Ann, St. John, Village of Riverview, Vinita Park, and Woodson Terrace.  The race is scheduled to begin at  9:30 p.m.

Raffle tickets for this race are currently on sale for $1 each.  Citizens can show support for their mayor by purchasing as many $1 tickets as they wish from the mayor or any city officials representing their community.  By purchasing multiple raffle tickets, citizens increase their chances of winning the Grand Prize which consists of two round-trip tickets to anywhere in the continental U.S., Mexico or Canada, courtesy of American Airlines. In addition, the mayor with the largest number of raffle tickets sold wins the starting Pole Position for the Mayor’s Challenge Cup.
