For A Change, Blues Making Off-Season Major Acquisitions

BY RANDY GARDNER

I am always so pessimistic about the St. Louis Blues Hockey team as they come into every season with no major moves. If they do it is usually letting someone go. This year is a little different as they just announced that they signed Paul Kariya.

This guy is a true veteran and knows how to win. Yes, he is up there in age a little for a hockey player but maybe he can bring some leadership and scoring to this team. Another key signing was goalie Manne Legacy as he is wrapped up for a two year deal. I think he thinks it might even be longer than that as he and his wife purchased a home and is rehabbing it.

This could be a good year for the Blues, one that could put people back in the
seats and maybe even a playoff birth that will go further than the first round.

I am not a big fan of the whole wrestling scene but how about the deaths of all of these wrestlers. I saw an interesting fact that over 100 wrestlers that have been involved in pro wrestling have died before the age of 50. Does this say something about the sport and maybe the abuse of substances? Don’t know for sure but it looks suspicious.

For the athletes themselves its hard to stay in that kind of shape and be on top of their game and I think they get caught up in the whole lifestyle itself. It is a very popular sport though as fans pack the arenas and love their favorite wrestlers. It is truly a spectacle to watch and see one of these events in person rivaling some of the biggest and best concerts in the world.

———-NASCAR at GATEWAY JULY 21

NASCAR is just around the corner as the Busch series stops here in St. Louis at Gateway on July 21. It’s going to be a lot of fun as we will get to see some of the biggest and best names in driving here in St. Louis.

I always like to tell a funny story about Carl Edwards one of the favorites of fans in NASCAR. Before he made it big he was a local driver here in the area and his rep called me and asked if I would like to do an interview with him.

We get calls daily about promoting events and people and I thought this was just another person looking for some free publicity. I come to find out he was on the verge of hitting it big. I still have his card though that he always talks about that says, “If you’re looking for a driver, I’m your man.” Funny how the world works.

I hope everyone had a great 4th of July holiday and enjoys the rest of the summer. Hard to believe that school is just around the corner and that means high school sports and the St. Louis Rams back in action.
