Funeral services were held June 7 for long-time Florissant Municipal Judge Timothy W. Kelly Sr., who died June 4 at the age of 63 of complications from diabetes.
Flags in Florissant have been flown at Half Mast for nine days starting June 5, one day for each term Judge Kelly was elected. He had been reelected to the post in April.
Judge received full honor guard honors including a guard on duty at his casket during visitation. Services were held from Sacred Heart Catholic Church with internment at Calvary Cemetery.
Judge Tim Kelly’s father was the late Judge John Kelly who was a Magistrate Judge and who was a fellow PT Boat Captain in the Navy and close friend with John F. Kennedy Tim and his Brother Kevin followed their Dad’s law career and both became attorneys and Judges. Kevin is the Municipal Judge for Maryland Heights and Cool Valley and in addition to being elected nine times as the Florissant Municipal Judge Tim also served as the judge for St. John.
Judge Kelly also maintained a private practice for 35 years, most recently in Bridgeton.
Mayor Tom Schneider, issued a statement, on the passing of his long time friend. He said:
“Tim loved being the Florissant Judge especially when someone would ask him to preside over a wedding. We will
remember his 32 year tenure not because he presided over a very efficient court system but because he cared about people especially the young offenders who filed through his court room.
“I always respected the separation of powers and never tried to impose on the court but Tim would share with me the things he was concerned about and I would share my concerns about legislation issues with him. He often gave me some very interesting suggestions, some of which were very good and some I think were testing me to see if I was paying attention.”
Besides his brother Kevin, Judge Kelly is survied by his mother Constance Kelly, two other brothers, a sister, two sons and a daughter.
